June blocks for quilting newbees

Elizabeth wanted stars for her month. It was pretty fun, we got to pick out what blocks we wanted. The top one is a wonky star, I sort of messed up one side and had to fix it with limited fabric, but I think it added to the "wonkyness" of it! The other is a bridle path pattern, I like this one, I'll have to be more careful to try to line up the corners next time though.:s I absolutely love her fabric choices and will have find some for myself!

May blocks for Alek- Modified Bentos

quartered and sewed back together.
before being quartered!
These blocks were fun, but a little tricky at times! They wern't quite big enough, so I had to piece the scraps I had left to make the outer most edge. I hope Alek likes them!

So, the next few weeks are going to be a little crazy around here. I need to sew this I-spy quilt together for Kate's birthday (2 weeks from Monday), make my mother-in-law's mother's day gift, a journal jar (sent my mom's a couple of days ago, hope she gets hers in time!!!), and make my good friend's baby a blanket, she didn't find out what she was having and she had a little boy on Tuesday. My brother is also visiting for a few weeks, then he will drive with the girls and me to Utah for our nephew's high school graduation. He is getting my garden prepped, even making garden boxes for me, and doing our landscaping! Busy busy busy!

I'm a girl of few words today, these are my girls after church on Sunday. Kate is wearing Lu's Easter dress from two years ago, oh how the time is going by too fast!

1st entry for the Made by Rae Spring top contest

So this blog is sort of turning into my sewing project place! Anyways, This is yet another project I have been trying to complete, and I'm glad it turned out! It is New Look pattern 6179, instead of a tie in the neck I put in elastic. I added a button, it's white because I couldn't find one to match. I got the fabric (swiss dot, I looove swiss dot!) from Hancock Fabrics. I really like how it turned out! I think I'm gonna have to make another one of these shirts. It was pretty easy too, which is always good for me!!!

First Quilt block for "Quilting Newbees" for Sarah

This is a log cabin quilt block. I had lots of fun making this, I think there is a log cabin quilt in store for the Petty household (someday!) I swear I ironed it, the natural light makes it look a little wrinkley, oh well. Block number 2 is in progress, maybe done today?!?

Quilt top

Here it is my very first official quilt top! I have made a couple in the past, but not the correct way I guess?!? Anyways, I pretty much love it, it turned out pretty cute I think. It is for my 21 month old, so she's not too picky yet...she probably won't really use it either until she's in her "big girl" bed. The next step is making a quilt sandwich with the batting and the backing. After that (I'm a bit behind) is the machine quilting, I'm a little scared of this step, wish me luck! I joined an online quilting bee too and I think it's going to be lots of fun, I'm pretty excited! Yes, my husband calls me grandma (partly because I love sweaters, I know I don't get it either) but he knows that I've always loved doing creative stuff so he knows what he got into when he married me! He makes me laugh all the time, and at least I can laugh at myself!

some projects

So I know I should really probably blog in order of events and such, but that's not how I roll I guess ( I'm the same way with scrap booking.) Anyways, I wanted to document some the fun projects I've been working on.

First the Emmeline apron, oh the apron! My sister Chrissy made this wonderful apron for me back in May after I saw the pattern on her sewing desk and knew I had to have it! We headed to Joann's and I picked out the fabric, then a few weeks later I had a lovely package in the mail from her. Yes, my sister's pretty dang cool! Well my friend Claire saw it and thought it was awesome as well. Claire is our friend Rays girlfriend and she has babysat for us so many times and she NEVER lets us pay her. So for Christmas I thought I would whip one up for her, yay right whip! She just barely received her completed apron a week ago...my bad! I can't even count the number of times I was seam ripping on the bodice piece! Anyways, I'm so glad it's done, and I'm pretty happy with results (just don't look too closely!)
Now I'm on to my next project...a quilt! I'm doing a quilt a long, following another blog. We do a different step each week, I thought it would be a good way to learn how to quilt, and it's a lot of fun. So far I've got it all cut out, but sometime this week I need to sew it together. I'm waiting on a new sewing machine (hopefully it shows up today!!!), then I will get that step done! I will post my progess as I get going on it!
