Quilt top

Here it is my very first official quilt top! I have made a couple in the past, but not the correct way I guess?!? Anyways, I pretty much love it, it turned out pretty cute I think. It is for my 21 month old, so she's not too picky yet...she probably won't really use it either until she's in her "big girl" bed. The next step is making a quilt sandwich with the batting and the backing. After that (I'm a bit behind) is the machine quilting, I'm a little scared of this step, wish me luck! I joined an online quilting bee too and I think it's going to be lots of fun, I'm pretty excited! Yes, my husband calls me grandma (partly because I love sweaters, I know I don't get it either) but he knows that I've always loved doing creative stuff so he knows what he got into when he married me! He makes me laugh all the time, and at least I can laugh at myself!

some projects

So I know I should really probably blog in order of events and such, but that's not how I roll I guess ( I'm the same way with scrap booking.) Anyways, I wanted to document some the fun projects I've been working on.

First the Emmeline apron, oh the apron! My sister Chrissy made this wonderful apron for me back in May after I saw the pattern on her sewing desk and knew I had to have it! We headed to Joann's and I picked out the fabric, then a few weeks later I had a lovely package in the mail from her. Yes, my sister's pretty dang cool! Well my friend Claire saw it and thought it was awesome as well. Claire is our friend Rays girlfriend and she has babysat for us so many times and she NEVER lets us pay her. So for Christmas I thought I would whip one up for her, yay right whip! She just barely received her completed apron a week ago...my bad! I can't even count the number of times I was seam ripping on the bodice piece! Anyways, I'm so glad it's done, and I'm pretty happy with results (just don't look too closely!)
Now I'm on to my next project...a quilt! I'm doing a quilt a long, following another blog. We do a different step each week, I thought it would be a good way to learn how to quilt, and it's a lot of fun. So far I've got it all cut out, but sometime this week I need to sew it together. I'm waiting on a new sewing machine (hopefully it shows up today!!!), then I will get that step done! I will post my progess as I get going on it!

Some Christmas fun

I love the tradition of making gingerbread houses so we invited uncle Chris to make "gingerbread" houses with us. I think he had just as much fun as Lucy creating his house. I wasn't very well prepared, so our poor houses have flat roofs and Lucy's collapsed because the dumb store bought frosting was too soft. Next year I will be making homemade frosting and possibly making real gingerbread for the houses...maybe. Kate just hung out and watched the process. Next year we'll let her join in the chaos of it! Things were getting a little messy, I went downstairs for a minute, come back up and Lucy is reaching her hands into the frosting bucket. She has uncle Chris wrapped around her finger so he was just letting the mess unfold! Anyways it was lots of fun!

Labor Day '09

We decided to actually get out and do something for Labor Day so we started out going to the Denver Zoo. Ha Ha, there were a million people there, and we couldn't find a place to park. We scratched that plan and got some lunch at Griff's, the one on Broadway that looks exactly like the one in Arvada, crazy, then we decided to try Bellview Park. The girls, uncle Chris, and I had been gone a couple of times this summer, Chad's dad works practically down the street, so he'd come spend his lunch hour with us. Anyways, it's a very cool park, they have a little train that circles the park, a petting zoo, and a cool creek that the kids love to play in. This particular day we avoided the water (I didn't bring extra clothes or towel since the original plan was the other zoo!) Then Kate fell asleep in the car, so I wanted to stop by Joann's to get some supplies for the quiet book I'm making the girls, you know to let her get a good nap! They were having some smoking sales so I couldn't pass it up! After that Sam's then home for a BBQ dinner...yum! I wish Chad could have more holidays off, I sure like hanging out with that crazy guy!

Schnepf Farms

Posted by Picasa
Well, I figured it's been a while since I last posted, so slowly but surely I will get all the summer posts together! I'm going to go backwards, the girls and I just got back from Arizona, so this will be first. We went to Schnepf Farms on Thursday, it's near my sister and parents houses in Queen Creek. It was fun, but I think it would be more fun when my little ones are a bit older. They had little carnival type rides, a carousel, petting zoo, and pig races! Right when we walked in they had a guy doing face painting too, the kids looked pretty cute with them on! It ended up being about 95 degrees, so mom, me, and my two girls didn't stay too long. The Packers stayed a little later. Then later we had a big girls afternoon. We saw Bright Star, very good, but a little depressing. After the movie we went to Savers to lighten our spirits! It was a fun busy day!
